Nationality
[edit]Ciftci was born in the Netherlands, therefore he is a Dutch footballer. Can people stop claiming otherwise unless he is actually capped by Turkey? Thanks. J Mo 101 (talk) 00:40, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
Your nationality is not determined by the place of your birth for instance John McCain was born in Panama, but that does not make him Panamanian. Besides Nadir was recently called up by the Turkish Football Federation to play in a friendly against the Netherlands (ironically) and he accepted. Here is the news from the official web-site: http://www.tff.org/default.aspx?pageID=471&ftxtID=11294 So next time do your research or stay quiet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.187.67.69 (talk) 03:01, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
- No need to take that kind of tone. I did check, and he wasn't listed here. Obviously he was called up later, which I didn't notice, but given the original edit was completely unsourced and named his place of birth as "Turkey", it didn't seem like a good faith edit. Thanks for clearing up the situation though. J Mo 101 (talk) 11:40, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
The tone isn't directed at you it's directed at general people who don't understand the complexities of the Turkish identity and how it reflects on immigration. I didn't change his place of birth to Turkey (unless I did it by accident) in fact if I had noticed it I would've changed it back to the Netherlands. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.187.67.69 (talk) 17:06, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
Kurd
[edit]I removed the category of Kurdish sportspeople because there is no source for it. Maybe it was a guess from where he was born, but Wikipedia is no place for guessing. A google search for "nadir ciftci kurd" only conjures up Wikipedia. '''tAD''' (talk) 21:02, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
